Barely three months into her marriage, a housewife in Kaduna State, Ma’arufat Ibrahim, has dumped her husband Muhammad Abdulganiyu, and packed out of their matrimonial home.

Reports say Ma’arufat took the decision, angered by her husband’s claims that his mother actually influenced him to marry her.

In reaction, Muhammad Abdulganiyu dragged her before the Sharia Court in Magajin, Gari, Kaduna State, demanding a refund of the expenses he incurred during their wedding ceremony, including the gifts she received from him.

The Presiding Judge, Malam Rilwan Kyaudai, consequently dissolved the marriage.

The Judge, while delivering judgment, declared that their marriage stands dissolved after all efforts to reconcile them by the Court and their families failed.

He ordered Ma’arufat to return N20,000 paid as dowry, in addition to the marriage suitcases she received and their contents, except of the materials she has already sewn.

“She will not return the mobile phone as requested by the complainant, but she will return the silver rings she received from him,” the Judge further held.

Earlier, Muhammad Abdulganiyu, in his petition alleged that his wife left their matrimonial home without any altercation.

“I tried my best to provide for her, but she and her mother do not appreciate my efforts and we’ve been married barely three months.

“If she’s no longer interested in our marriage, she should pay me all I spent during the wedding and return the mobile phone and silver rings I gave to her,” he said.

On her part, the defendant said she left because her husband does not provide food for her, claiming also that he told her that his mother pushed him into marrying her hence she had to quit the marriage.
