  • Party demands probe, prosecution of perpetrators

Hoodlums suspected to be political thugs, on Tuesday night, invaded the Labour Party’s national secretariat in Utako, Abuja, vandalized the party’s property and tore down the acting National Chairman Hajia Nenadi Usman’s banner.

Reports quoting eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived around 8:02pm and broke into the compound, splitting into two groups to target the main entrance and the banner.

Reports further said that the hoodlums climbed the perimeter fence, pulled down the large poster of Usman, and dragged it across the compound to their vehicle.

The attack occurred amid rising insecurity in the Utako-Jabi axis, with recent reports of hoodlums killing two people in nearby gardens.

Party officials condemned the vandalism, describing it as an attempt to intimidate and destabilise the Labour Party during a period of internal tension.

Sundry media reports said that the response by the security personnel was somewhat delayed.

Two patrol vehicles reportedly arrived at the scene 45 minutes after the attack, sparking concerns about the effectiveness of security measures.

The party has called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The incident has raised questions about the safety and security of political parties and their leaders.
