Herdsmen suspected to be bandits lynched in Katsina market

A Fulani herdsman suspected to be a bandit has been lynched by traders at the Charanchi Market in Katsina State.

The ‎ herdsman, who brought his cow to the market for sale on Sunday, was lynched by some traders on the suspicion that he was a bandit.

Spokesman of the Katsina State Police Command, SP Gambo Isah, who confirmed the incident, said: “A Fulani man was suspected to be a bandit and lynched”.

It was also gathered that police personnel at Charanchi rescued another Fulani herdsman from being lynched.

The herdsman reportedly told the police that he and the victim were at the market to sell their cows.

However, another version of the story is that five Fulani men suspected to be bandits were at the market on Sunday and that a search revealed that they were carrying AK-47 rifles on them.

Angry traders reportedly swooped on them and set three of them ablaze, while two were rescued by the police.

Reports of the incident caused commotion in the cattle section of the market on Tuesday before the police intervened. ‎
