Some gunmen have reportedly abducted a medical doctor working with the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, Anambra State.
The incident happened barely three days after Governor Chukwuma Soludo launched the State’s security force known as “Operation Udo ga-achị” (peace must reign), as part of his administration’s strategic move to combat crimes and restore lasting peace and security in the State.
The victim, a neurosurgeon identified as Dr. Collinus Onuigbo, was reportedly kidnapped in the late hours of Tuesday.
According to reports, he was kidnapped in front of his residence, a few meters away from the Teaching Hospital. His family members have remained restless following the incident, and have been making frantic efforts to secure his release.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident.
He disclosed that the command is on the matter, and has already mobilised operations for the possible rescue of the victim.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono-Itam, has given orders to secure the victim’s release.
He added that the incident was immediately reported to the command, which then launched a manhunt for the criminals, working with available clues to rescue the victim.
