Guber 2026: Tinubu charges APC to reclaim Osun

President Bola Tinubu has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally commenced its push to reclaim Osun State ahead of the 2026 governorship election, following the emergence of Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji as the party’s governorship candidate.

Tinubu made the declaration while congratulating Oyebamiji on his unanimous affirmation as the APC flag-bearer at the party’s primary election held on Saturday in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the Osun APC for conducting a peaceful and unified primary, describing the exercise as a reflection of reconciliation and growing internal cohesion within the party.

“The journey to reclaim Osun State for the progressive fold in the 2026 governorship election has begun,” Tinubu said.

“I urge all members and leaders of APC in the state to remain focused, united, and resolute. Victory is achievable, and together, we will succeed.”

The President also commended other aspirants who stepped down in support of Oyebamiji, noting that their decision demonstrated party loyalty and a collective commitment to the ideals of the APC.

Urging the newly emerged candidate to build on the unity displayed during the primary, Tinubu advised Oyebamiji to be magnanimous in victory by embracing all party leaders and former aspirants to ensure inclusivity and cohesion as the party prepares for the election.

The APC primary election was chaired by Edo State governor, Monday Okpebholo, with delegates unanimously affirming Oyebamiji’s candidature, a development party leaders say has strengthened the APC’s chances in the 2026 governorship contest.

Osun State was previously under the control of the APC until in 2022 when Adeleke, as candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), defeated the incumbent governor, Gboyega Oyetola.
