Gov Alia tasks security operatives on quick, safe release of kidnapped medical students

Benue State governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has directed security agencies to intensify efforts and ensure the quick and safe release of medical students that were abducted in the State.

He condemns in strong terms, the abduction of the student doctors from University of Maiduguri and University of Jos.

The students were ambushed on Thursday evening and abducted by gunmen along Otukpo-Enugu highway, while on their way to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) annual convention in Enugu State.

According to Alia’s Chief Press Secretary Sir Tersoo Kula, the governor warned criminal elements operating within the State to find another base.

Kula noted through a statement that Alia’s administration will not rest on its oars to stamp out all forms of criminality in the State.

No fewer than 20 medical student doctors were held hostage by yet to be known gunmen on Thursday, within the Benue South axis of the State.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Benue State Command, SP Sewuese Anene, who confirmed the incident, added that efforts are on by men of the Command to rescue the victims and solicited information to that effect.
