A gas pipeline explosion has rocked the Ijaghala area of Ugborodo in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, causing fear and confusion among residents.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday evening, caused alarm as thick fumes and loud vibrations unsettled nearby communities.
Although no casualties have been reported, the development has renewed concerns over the safety of gas facilities in the region.
The explosion was said to involve a pipeline operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and the Nigerian Gas Company (NGC).
Sources within Ijaghala Community confirmed that the blast occurred at about 6:15pm on Wednesday.
A reliable community insider, who spoke on condition of anonymity, attributed the incident to a sudden pressure release from a gas manifold.
The manifold, located at Okigbe, reportedly connects gas lines belonging to Chevron, Shell, and the NGC, making it a major distribution point in the area.
Residents of a nearby fish camp were said to have fled to Ijaghala for safety as the explosion erupted.
Witnesses described the sound as terrifying, noting that people ran in panic until the situation began to calm.
Authorities are expected to carry out an assessment to determine the cause and extent of damage as the community awaits further updates.
