The Nigerian Flying Eagles have qualified for the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Niger after defeating Mauritania 5-0 in their second leg final round clash played at the Agege Stadium, Lagos, on Saturday.
The team qualified 6-1 on aggregate having played 1-1 with Mauritania in Nouakchot last Saturday.
A hat trick from Nazifi Yahaya a strikes from Wasiu Alalade and Aremu Afeez sealed an emphatic win for Nigeria.
First half goals from Wasiu Alalade and Nazifi Yahaya gave the seven time champions a two goal lead into the break.
The Paul Aigbogun side dominated the first half with their crisp passes and were unlucky not to have scored more goals before half time.
Alalade shot the Flying Eagles into the lead in the 15th minute inside the penalty area.
Yahaya doubled his side’s lead with a neat finish after receiving a delightful pass.
In the second half, Yahaya made it 3-0 in the 56th minute before completing his hat-trick ten minutes later.
In the 89th minute, a Mauritanian defender brought Aneikeme Asuquo down inside the 18 yard box and Aremu making his debut for the team stepped to convert the spot kick.
