Some sections of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital9 (LASUTH) were gutted by fire on Thursday.
The fire started from the ICT room of the hospital at about 2:22 pm.
However, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said it successfully extinguished the fire before it could escalate.
According to the Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, the fire originated in the ICT room of the hospital, situated at the Hematology Clinic of the Pre-Pharmacy block.
“Prompt action from the Ikeja Fire Station of the agency ensured that the fire was contained within the room of its origin, preventing it from spreading to other areas,” she said.
Meanwhile, the management of LASUTH, through a statement by the Head of Public Affairs Department, Ms Oluwaseyi Adewale, said there are no casualties and the fire has been extinguished with investigation ongoing to assess the extent of damage to the hospital infrastructure.
“A mild fire started at the Information and Communications Technology Unit of the hospital at about 2 .00pm on Tuesday, 4th of April, 2024.
“The fire service arrived promptly and the fire has been completely put out, there were no casualties.
“We want to reassure the public and our esteemed clients that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure their continued safety,” the statement added.
