The government of Finland has warned the estranged leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mr. Simon Ekpa, to desist from remotely inciting violence in the southeastern part of Nigeria from his offshore base.

Ekpa has been fingered in the incessant directive ordering residents of the South East to sit at home on Mondays, and those who dared to step out of their homes have had to face violent attacks by the enforcers.

The situation, which has lasted for more than one year, has reportedly brought untold hardship to residents of the South East region – in economy and social life.

The matter came to a head recently, when the Igbo community in Finland, urged the Finnish government to arrest and prosecute Ekpa over the killings in the Southeastern part of Nigeria.

In a letter dated February 15 addressed to Ekpa, the Finnish government warned him to desist from such nefarious activities, saying they are capable of disturbing the peace and causing bloodshed in Nigeria.

“More worrying to the Finnish government is your imposition of sit-at-home on days slated for democratic elections in Nigeria,” the Finnish government said, noting that:  “This is an act of international terrorism.”

The Finnish government further ordered Ekpa to call off his planned sit-at-home by pronouncing through the same media outlets he used for his illegal pronouncements, a reversal of the sit-at-home orders.

It further gave Ekpa 48 hours to reverse course, failing which he would be arrested and charged with international terrorism.
