- Accuses Uzodinma’s govt of backing invasion
The Federal government, through the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), has threatened to disconnect Imo State from the national grid over the abduction of its workers at gunpoint.
NISO issued the threat in a statement on Saturday, demanding the immediate release of the abducted workers.
The government’s agency alleged that armed operatives acting on behalf of the Imo State Government were responsible for the invasion.
It explained that the operatives stormed and vandalised the control rooms at the Egbu 132/33kV Transmission Substation after attempting to coerce system operators into granting an unauthorised and illegal outage in the region.
NISO vowed to shut down electricity supply to the State if the government fails to communicate or take action by the end of Saturday evening.
“The continued absence of communication on the status of our personnel is a source of serious concern to NISO management,” the statement read.
“If no information is received,” NISO warned that it will disconnect all transmission substations within Owerri from the national grid as a precautionary measure.
As of the time of filing this report, the Imo State Government had not responded to the allegation.
