University lecturers under the aegis of Academic Staff Union of Universities (AUU) have reportedly received full salaries for the month of November 2022, although their eight months arrears is allegedly being withheld by the Federal government.
A senior member of the union at the Bayero University Kano (BUK) reportedly said: “Some of our members have started receiving salaries and I can confirm to you that we received our full salaries for the month of November. However, the arrears are still being withheld.”
The National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU is expected to hold a crucial meeting in the coming days over the withheld salaries.
ASUU called off its eight-month-old strike on October 14, 2022. However, disagreement over remuneration for the period the lecturers did not teach students signals that the feud is still not over.
