FG has filed fresh charges against Sowore, govt lawyer tells court

The Federal government announced on Wednesday that it has filed fresh charges against Sahara Reporters publisher, Mr. Omoyele Sowore.

Sowore with his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare were at the Abuja High Court for the resumed hearing of their trial.

Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu adjourned the case to Thursday, February 13, but was told that the Attorney General has taken over the case and filed fresh charges.

The prosecutor, Mr. A.K Alilu, told the court that the office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) has taken over the prosecution of the case, and has filed fresh and amended charges.

Alilu said they are yet to effect an amendment to charges against the defendants.

But the defendants refused to take plea on the new charge filed against them by the government.

Sowore and Bakare’s lawyer Olumide Fusika asked the prosecution to serve them with necessary documents on the new and previous charges before they could take their plea.

Justice Ojukwu then ordered the prosecution to pay the sum of N200, 000 as the cost to the defendants for the frivolous applications for adjournment.
