FG appoints Nwabuoku as acting Accountant-General of the Federation

The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, has announced the appointment of Anamekwe Nwabuoku to oversee the office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.

Nwabuoku will supervise the office following the suspension of  Ahmed Idris, the Accountant-General of the Federation, who was arrested last week on alleged charges of corruption. The EFCC alleged that Idris stole about N80billion.

Nwabuoku’s appointment was disclosed through a statement by Yunusa Abdullahi, spokesperson for the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed.

According to the statement, Nwabuoku’s appointment was contained “in a letter dated 20th May, 2022 and signed by Aliyu Ahmed, Permanent Secretary (Finance), Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning”.

Born in 1962, at Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo State, Nwabuoku is a Fellow, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN); Fellow, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria(CITN), and member of Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM).

He was Director (Finance & Accounts), Ministry of Defence, HQ, Abuja from May 2019 to March 2021.

Until his latest appointment, Nwabuoku was the Director, Inspectorate Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.
