FCT workers appeal industrial court ruling, continue strike

Workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), represented by the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC), resumed their indefinite strike on Thursday over unresolved welfare issues.  The strike began on January 19, 2026.

Attendance at FCTA offices was low, complying with JUAC’s directive to stay at home. The strike continues despite a National Industrial Court ruling on January 27, which ordered workers to suspend their strike and adjourned the case until March 23. The union, led by counsel Femi Falana (SAN), has appealed this ruling.

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, warned of consequences for workers who did not return and stated that most demands had been addressed.

Nonetheless, the JUAC Secretary, Abdullahi Saleh, encouraged workers to support the strike, emphasising unity and commitment.

The unions claimed the court’s injunction targeted JUAC leaders and not the unions themselves. They reiterated that the strike would persist until Wike dialogues with the workers.
