FCCPC seals 4U supermarket in Abuja, seizes 97 bags of unwholesome rice

* Takes steps to force down prices of commodities

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), on Thursday, sealed 4U – a foreign supermarket – located at Wuse 2, for obnoxious practices, information concealing and sale of unwholesome brands of rice.

The Acting Executive Vice Chairman of FCCPC, Adamu Abdullahi, described the situation as unacceptable.

Reports said that officials of FCCPC were at several supermarkets in the nation’s capital on Thursday to initiate a campaign to enforce price display and quantity compliance.

The move was a direct response to concerns raised by some consumers about the rising costs of goods which go against the recent strengthening of the Naira against major currencies

Meanwhile, the agency has launched a campaign to enforce price display and quantity compliance at supermarkets throughout the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The Commission said price discrepancies remain a significant issue.

It stressed that consumers have the right to be informed of the prices of items they intend to purchase.
