The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Dr John Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the Ekiti State governorship election.
The Returning Officer for the election, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka, who announced the results on Sunday morning, said Fayemi polled a total of 197,459 votes to emerge the winner of the election.
Olayinka said Professor Kolapo Olubunmi Olusola of the PDP polled 178,121 in the election.
His keen and closest contender, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prof Kolapo Olushola, who is the incumbent deputy governor of the state, won in four local governments areas.
Fayemi, the immediate past Minister of Mineral Resources, was defeated in all the 16 local governments of the state by the incumbent Governor Fayose in 2014.
The election was adjudged to be generally peaceful across the state, but with alleged large-scale vote-buying by supporters of both political parties.
