Ex-senator Abbo denies being in police custody, debunks purported rape tale

Former Senator Elisha Abbo has denied reports suggesting he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old secondary school girl

On Thursday, reports that the former lawmaker was in police custody over claims of raping a minor on June 29, 2025, went viral.

Addressing the allegation, which was reportedly filed by the alleged victim’s mother, Abbo called it baseless, unfounded and mischievous.

Abbo, who represented Adamawa North in the ninth senate and the beginning of the tenth, spoke with journalists on Friday and disclosed that he was in his home in Katampe extension, Abuja, on the day in question and had no encounter with the police.

He said: “The said report is handiwork of my political detractors. It is an orchestrated smear campaign to disturb my peace by political enemies.”

Abbo stated that the only issue he reported to the police was a “desperate female money monger” who demanded N5 million from him.

“I personally reported the desperate female money monger to the Nigeria Police Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), where both of us were later invited for questioning, only for me to be reading or hearing a completely different story several weeks after now,” he said.
