Enugu Rangers loses ex-striker Stanley Okoronkwo


A pall of darkness has fallen on current Nigeria league leaders – Enugu Rangers – following the death of one of the club’s early star strikers, Stanley Okoronkwo, a contemporary of the legendary Christian Chukwu and goalkeeper Emmanuel Okala.

Stanley, a star performer in the rampaging Enugu Rangers in the 1970s, reportedly died at a private hospital in Enugu, on Sunday.

He started his football career at Highlander FC, Jos in 1970. He later played for Vasco Dagama and Rangers International FC both of Enugu.

Reports quoting a source said:  “Stanley Okoronkwo was a prominent player for Rangers. He played in the 70s and was known as the Englishman because of his neat style of play. He died in an u disclosed private hospital in Enugu yesterday (Sunday).”

It was learnt that during his career as a footballer, Okoronkwo won the African Winners Cup, two FA Cups, three national league titles amongst other accolades.

He is married and blessed with children.
