The Police Command in Enugu State has recorded a major security breakthrough, arresting 52 suspects, recovering firearms and ammunition, and rescuing three kidnapped victims during a series of operations carried out between January 24 and January 30.
Its spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in the Command’s weekly crime statistics released on Saturday.
According to Ndukwe, the individuals currently in custody include three armed robbery suspects, 12 kidnapping suspects, and three persons linked to homicide cases. He added that the police also arrested two suspects for rape and defilement, four suspected cultists, as well as 28 others connected to various criminal offences across the State.
The spokesperson said the operations led to the recovery of one firearm, 20 rounds of ammunition of different calibres, and six stolen vehicles. He also confirmed that three abducted victims were successfully rescued through sustained intelligence-led interventions by operatives of the Command.
In addition, police recovered hard drugs and a large quantity of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, highlighting what Ndukwe described as an intensified crackdown on drug-related crimes within the state.
He attributed the successes recorded during the period to the dedication of police personnel, improved intelligence gathering, and effective collaboration with other security agencies as well as members of the public.
The police spokesperson reassured residents of Enugu State of the Command’s resolve to sustain its offensive against criminal activities and ensure the safety of lives and property.
Ndukwe also appealed to citizens to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information, noting that community cooperation remains critical to proactive policing and swift response to security threats.
