Enugu govt commiserates with Catholic Church, places N10m bounty on killers of Nsukka priest

The Enugu State Government has condemned the gruesome killing of Rev. Fr. Mathew Eya of Nsukka Catholic Diocese.

The priest was murdered on Friday, September 19, 2025.

According to the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Malachy Uchenna Agbo, the government described the action as cowardly and cold-blooded.

Father Eya was said to have been shot dead by a group of assailants, who attacked him along Alumona- Eha Ndiagu road in Nsukka Local Government Area.

The government has, therefore, reiterated that security of lives and property remains its priority and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The government added that it has the technology, human resources, and indeed a demonstrable capacity to track down and defeat the remnant workers of evil in the State.

Besides condemnation, the government also promised a N10 million reward for anyone with credible information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

“Anybody with credible information about this crime and any other possible breach of law and order should please quickly contact 07077451426,” the commissioner appealed.

Meanwhile, the government has commiserated with the late Father Eya’s immediate family, the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka, and indeed the Catholic faithful in general on the tragic incident.
