The Ekiti State government has suspended the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the State Specialist Hospital in Ikere-Ekiti, Dr. Olubiyi Olaolu Abidemi, for allegedly beating his wife.
The CMD was alleged to have inflicted an injury on his wife during a domestic misunderstanding.
It was gathered that the victim, Dr Adenike Olubiyi, a lecturer at Ekiti State University (EKSU) in Ado-Ekiti, was hospitalised after the incident.
A statement issued on Wednesday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ekiti State Ministry of Health and Human Services, Deji Daramola said Olubiyi was suspended by the State Hospitals Management Board following “the seriousness of the case reported against you (Olubiyi) which established the fact that you violated the Ekiti Public Service Rules 030301(ii) and 030402(x).”
The ministry said the suspended CMD has been prohibited from carrying out his official duties, pending further investigation in line with the provisions of the Ekiti State Public Service Rules.

It further directed Olubiyi to hand over his duties as CMD of the hospital to Dr Akinsipe Catherine Iyabo with immediate effect.
The ministry further stressed the commitment of the state government to rewarding excellent performance, diligence, and dedication to duties, noting that the government would not hesitate to punish officials who failed to abide by the Code of Conduct for Public Officers.
