DSS re-arrests Malami moments after leaving Kuje Prison

A former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), was rearrested on Monday by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) moments after leaving the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja, having fulfilled his bail conditions.

Reports quoting sources disclosed that DSS officials intercepted Malami shortly after he exited the facility and escorted him for further interrogation over a fresh security probe.

The development is linked to the recent discovery of arms at Malami’s country home in Kebbi State during a search conducted by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which reportedly prompted the DSS investigation.

Although details of the probe remain unclear, security sources said the matter is being handled in line with due process, assuring that Malami’s rights would be respected.

As of press time, neither the DSS nor Malami’s legal representatives had issued an official statement on the development.

Malami served as Nigeria’s Attorney-General and Minister of Justice between 2015 and 2023 under former President, Muhammadu Buhari.
