Don’t join strike, AIG begs police officers in Ebonyi

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 9, Umuahia, Isaac Akinmoyede, has pleaded with officers of the Ebonyi State Command to ignore the proposed nationwide protest and strike by some police officers to demand better entitlements, urging them to disregard the rumour and focus on their assignment.

Akinmoyede, shortly after a one-day sensitisation programme, organised for police officers in Ebonyi, revealed the preparedness of the IGP, Usman Alkali Baba, to offset all backlog of salaries owed some officers in the country.

He said: “I’m in Ebonyi State Police Command to educate officers and men of the command on their duties and the need to be loyal and show commitment to their work.

“I am also here to let the officers know that the IGP is making efforts to improve the general wellbeing and welfare of police officers in the country.”

Speaking further, he said: “The strike is a rumour, but when rumours fly so high, then there is the need to clarify some of the issues. I’m in Ebonyi to listen to the officers and men of the command.

“We know they have their challenges as a command. You can hear me, when I said the promise of 20 per cent increase made to them will be fulfilled,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police (CP), Ebonyi State Police Command, Aliyu Garba, said: “We have assured the IGP that the Ebonyi Command will not join the bandwagon in the name of strike. We will continue to discharge our civic duties and responsibility to the best of our ability.”
