The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has appealed to tertiary schools to speed up the verification process, which oftentimes causes delays in loans disbursement to beneficiary students.
The Fund stated that the appeal became necessary to ensure that students who apply for the loans get it without delay.
In a statement on Wednesday evening by the Director of Strategic Communications of the Fund, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the organisation explained that the appeal is to guard against the delay oftentimes experienced by prospective beneficiaries of the scheme.
He said: “We are inundated with complaints from prospective beneficiaries of our loans expressing worries about the slow verification process of their applications by schools.
“They said the slow process oftentimes caused delay for many of them to receive their school fees and upkeep allowances from NELFUND.”
The Fund, therefore, pointed out that even though thorough verification of applicants is mandatory to access the loan, the belief is that prioritising timely verification and approval of successful applications would prevent loan beneficiaries from having any issue getting their fees and upkeep allowances as and when due.
