President Muhammadu Buhari is billed to broadcast to the nation on Friday, June 12, 2020, at 7 am to commemorate Nigeria’s Democracy Day.
A statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by Mr. Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President (Media and Publicity) said television and radio stations, as well as other electronic media outlets, are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority and Radio Nigeria respectively for the broadcast.
Friday’s broadcast will mark the first time Nigeria is commemorating Democracy Day on June 12, previous celebrations having been held on May 29, the day Nigeria returned to democratic governance after several years of military dictatorship.
The Federal government had last year announced a reversal to June 12 as Democracy Day, in honour the supreme sacrifice made by MKO Abiola, who won a presidential election on June 12, 1993, but was disallowed to assume office by the military government of General Ibrahim Babangida.
