Delta communities seek speedy start of maritime varsity

Communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom of Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, host to the Nigerian Maritime University, have appealed to the Federal Government to fast track resumption of academic activities in the institution.

The chairman of Kokodiagbene community, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, who spoke on behalf of the chairmen of Gbararmatu communities, regretted the delay in beginning academic work in the university.

He implored the Federal Government to fulfill its promise and do the needful, in order to calm frayed nerves of the people.

He expressed disappointment in the way and manner the Federal government was handling the take-off of the university at Okerenkoko in spite of announcement that N2 billion had been earmarked as take-off grant.

Comrade Mulade added that the people of the Niger Delta are losing trust and confidence in the Federal government for not showing enough commitment to the promises it made to the people on the university.

While reiterating that Okerenkoko community remained the original land owner of the Nigerian  Maritime University, he appealed to the government to expedite action and start the university.
