An Adamawa State High Court has issued a warrant of arrest against Barr. Hudu Yunuysa-Ari, the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the State
Justice Benjamin Manji Lawan ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to arrest Yunusa-Ari and bring him to court with immediate effect, to stand trial on a 3-count charge.
The order followed a ruling on an application dated April 16, 2024, and filed by the Adamawa State Government through its lead counsel, L. D. Nzadon.
Moving the application, Nzadon, who referred the judge to Section 20 Subsection (1j) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) 2018, urged the court to exercise its powers and direct the IGP to arrest the defendant wherever he is found. He told the court that efforts to serve the defendant proved abortive.
The suspended REC is being prosecuted for illegally declaring the results of the Adamawa State governorship election.
Yunusa-Ari had stirred controversy in the last general elections after he declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Aisha Binani Dahiru, as the winner of the Adamawa State governorship election with results in only 10 out of the 21 local government areas collated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
