Court jails man over attempt to steal from ex-President Obasanjo

An Abeokuta Magistrate Court, on Friday, sentenced a 33-year-old man, Seun Sowemimo, to 12 months imprisonment for attempting to steal from former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Sowemimo of no fixed address pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of theft and causing breach of peace.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Olajumoke Somefun, before pronouncing the sentence, said the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that the suspect was guilty as charged.

The prosecutor, ASP Olakunle Shonibare, had earlier told the court that Sowemimo scaled the fence into Obasanjo’s compound in Abeokuta on April 1, with intent to steal.

The offence, he said, contravened the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State  2006.
