Corrupt govs, top govt officials behind plot to remove Bawa as EFCC chair, group alleges

A group known as United Nigeria has passed a vote of confidence on the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa.

The group said the civil society organisations (CSOs) pushing for Bawa’s removal are tools in the hands of politicians and top civil servants who have corruption cases to answer, asking President Muhammadu Buhari to disregard them.

The group claimed that for daring sitting governors who turned public assets into private properties with their families and to help to recover them fast, Bawa is being hunted.

According to Zulai Adams, on behalf of the group, Bawa has broken the jinx and records of fighting corruption and corrupt elements in the society in 2022.

Adams said President Buhari should rather present a letter of commendation to Bawa, than rebuke, as being pushed by the tele-guided CSOs in Lagos and Abuja.

Adams maintained that the trend whereby the CSOs are being used by State governors, their cohorts and top civil servants, is worrisome.

She urged the anti-graft boss to remain undaunted, and continue to recover public funds slashed in local and foreign reserves by corrupt leaders at all levels.
