Commuters going out of Lagos, Nigeria’s economic nerve centre, were stranded on Thursday afternoon as two fallen containers blocked the ever-busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The first incident was recorded at 10:50 am on the popular Kara Bridge with the second incident happening at 2 pm on the Long Bridge, both on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Reports said that hundreds of vehicles were at a standstill as a result of the incidents.
The gridlock, as of the time of filing this report, had reached the popular Otedola Bridge, stretching backward towards Alapere area.
The spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Command, Florence Okpe, told Channels Television that officers of the command, alongside officials of sister agencies, have commenced clearance operations.
According to her, no casualty was recorded, adding that first responders are on the ground to maintain traffic laws and ease the situation.
