The National commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Kenneth Ukeagu, has clarified that any vote that is not captured in the BVAS will not count.
Ukeagu made the clarification while speaking with journalists at the Afikpo North LGA headquarters, collation centre for the Ebonyi South Senatorial Zone bye-election.
He, however, urged candidates of various political parties participating in the bye-election to maintain peace and order.
“With regards to this bye-election, we have actually cooperated with the provisions, I think the process is ongoing, and very soon, we will declare the winner.
“At the end, I want to appeal to the contestants, and whatever is the overcome, they should embrace peace,” Ukeagu said.
Speaking on the alleged bypass of BVAS by agents during accreditation and voting in some polling unit – especially in Ohaozara and Afikpo North LGAs – the INEC chief said the commission will apply the rules involved in BVAS.
“We have our rules and guidelines with regards to the use of BVAS in the election. And in all election, we applied the rules and guidelines, and if there such cases that it wasn’t used, the rules will be applied,” he stressed.
