Buhari summons emergency security meeting after US, UK terror alert

President Muhammadu Buhari has summoned an emergency security meeting for Monday to review the situation in the country following the adverse travel advisory raised by the United States (US) and United Kingdom (UK) embassies in Nigeria.

The meeting will further review and strengthen security network in the country, especially the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The US and UK recently warned their citizens against travelling to some States in Nigeria, categorically warning of terror threats in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), setting off panic in the city and forcing businesses and other activities to shut down abruptly.

However, Mallam Garba Shehu, his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, disclosed through a statement that Buhari called an emergency security meeting for Monday morning, setting aside earlier scheduled national events.

“The President, who was initially scheduled to commission the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) new Technology and Innovation Complex, will receive briefs from the security chiefs, and interject on areas that need more attention.

“The commissioning of the NASENI complex will hold on a later date,” the statement reads.
