Boko Haram returns some abducted Dapchi school girls

Boko Haram terrorists have finally returned majority of the female students they abducted from the Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi, in Yobe State. They kept the girls for about one month and three days before returning them to the town.

Report says the insurgents returned the girls in the early hours of Wednesday few minutes after soldiers were withdrawn from the town. The terrorist group reportedly came with the girls in 9 vehicles, same way they took them away on February 19. The actual number of girls returned could not be ascertained immediately.

There was confusion in the area as residents of the community scampered into the bush as the terrorists appeared in the area, first dropping off one of the girls in a nearby village and then driving into the center of Dapchi town to drop off the rest of the girls.

There have been rumours that a few of the girls had died in captivity, but that could not be independently confirmed.

It is also not clear if the Federal government paid ransom to the terrorists to have the girls released.

“We are happy. There is jubilation in Dapchi now as the girls are back,” a resident was quoted as saying.

The insurgents invaded the Government Girls Science Technical College, GGSTC, Dapchi, in Yobe State on February 19, and abducted about 110 students.
