Bethesda Home for the Blind committed to assisting the blind, says director Ohakwe

The Director, Bethesda Home for the Blind, Mrs. Chioma Ohakwe, has said the Home would not relent in assisting the vulnerable ones in the society, such as the blind.

During the 2020 end of the year Ability in Disability and Thanksgiving service held at the Home, Mushin, Lagos, Chioma said the Home is committed in its drive to give hope to the blind.

“Bethesda is committed to assisting the blind youths throughout the Federation to become reliant personalities contributing positively to the society. We house them, clothe them and train them up to University level without charging them any fee. We depend on God and spirited organizations to be able to achieve our objectives,” she said.

She added 126 blind students are currently in the Home, while 86 of them are in various higher institutions. According to her, another 25 students scored above 200 in their Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, exams.

She called on corporate organizations to come to the aid of the Home in providing financial support to cater for the feeding and payment of staff salaries of workers at the Home.

“Our next decade vision is to be the best private visual impaired care center in the world, empowering a lot of visual impaired  to become self reliant through partnering with the government, organizations and like-minded individuals.

The Director thanked Lagos State governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, “for his support in many ways.’’
