Banditry: Police deploy more personnel to highways across South-West

Police have tightened security on highways across the South West zone of the country to prevent cases of banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities.

This is to allay the fears of the motorists and other road users especially during the yuletide season.

Reports said that suspected bandits and kidnappers have taken over some of the highways in the region especially at night along the Ilorin-Ogbomoso highway.

Some road users have tales of woes, as they escaped kidnapping by the whiskers or lost their valuables.

In order to prevent the avert danger, the Police have deployed more personnel on the highways.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 11, CSP Ade Ogunyemi, reportedly said the highways in the zone are now more secure with deployment of more personnel.

“All the Police escorts that were withdrawn from the VIPs have been deployed to the various formations to ensure adequate security of lives and property.

“We now have more policemen at the various checkpoints on the highways.

“Also, we have more patrol vans to ensure effective policing of the highways.

“Police personnel have been trained on tactical approach as well on the need for swift response to the security issue.

“Motorists and other road users should feel more secured whenever they are traveling on any of the highways.

“There is no need to entertain any fear as the police will always be alive to their constitutional responsibility,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Oyo State Government has procured two aircraft for aerial surveillance of the 33 local government areas of the State.

It has also procured more patrol vans for the operatives of the Western Security Network code named Amotekun
