Residents and truck drivers in Benin City, Edo State capital, barricaded the Benin-Agbor highway, bringing vehicular movement to a standstill on Wednesday.
The driver of an articulated truck said the Federal or State government should fix the road, insisting the road is too bad to be ignored.
He insisted that if the Federal government fails to fix the road, State government should intervene and make the road motorable.
Other road users insisted they knew it was only a matter of time for the Wednesday outburst to occur, adding that the protest is a justified reaction to the condition of the road.

They said road users have shown incredible patience with the authorities over the state of the Benin-Agbor highway.
A businessman in the area said his business has taken a hit due to the state of the road, and businesses have taken a serious turn for the worse and some businesses are folding up already.
A volunteer traffic warden well known in the area alleged marginalization of Edo State by the Federal government as the reason the road has been ignored.
