The Arochukwu Kingdom in Abia State has condemned in strong terms the gruesome murder of one of its top lawyers, Barrister Ndionyenma Nwankwo.
Barr Nwankwo, a former chairman of the Owerri chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), was murdered in cold blood in his office last week.
The police have reportedly launched a manhunt for the perpetrators, with a view to bringing them to justice.
A statement from the Eze Aro Palace, signed by Arianzu Arochukwu, Mazi Kanu Okoro, condemning the murder read:
“Arochukwu Kingdom received with rude shock the news of the gruesome, brutal and bestial murder of her illustrious and patriotic son, Mazi Barr Ndionyenma Nwankwo by unknown heartless assailants.
“It is one death too many. The savage act will not go unpunished.
“I therefore call on relevant security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of this dastardly act, which has thrown the entire Arochukwu Kingdom into deep mourning, and bring them to book.”
He continued: “Our hearts go out to his wife, children, friends, associates and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA),” the statement concluded.
Similarly, the President-General of Nzuko Arochukwu (Women’s Wing), Lady Bright Elekwa, said: “Our hearts are filled with grief on the horrific murder of Barr Ndionyenma Nwankwo.
“The entire women in the kingdom are in a state of agony over the brutality meted on our son.
“On this note, therefore, we call on all the relevant security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of this evil without delay.
“To the NBA, this is a serious challenge to your profession. Rise up and live no stone unturned.
“To the Amazons of Aro kingdom, while we mourn, pray fervently for God’s revelation and intervention on this matter. He alone will expose the culprits.
“To our men, it’s time for action.
We thank God for a wonderful life of service well spent while alive.
May God grant his repose eternal rest in Jesus name, Amen,” the woman leader concluded.
