Army ‘sacks’ Brigade Commander over Adamawa police HQ invasion

The Nigerian Army has sacked the Commander, 23 Armour Brigade, Yola, Brig-Gen. Mohammed Gambo, over the midnight invasion of Adamawa Police Headquarters (HQ), where many army personnel and a police inspector lost their lives.

Last month, the former commander mobilised 12 trucks of armed soldiers to invade the police headquarters.

Gambo is replaced with Brig-Gen. Paul Zawaya, from Michika Local Council of Adamawa.

While receiving the new commander at the Government House, Yola on Tuesday, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, urged Zawaya to redouble his efforts towards reducing the crime rate in the State.

The governor, who was worried over the invasion, tasked the new commander to work in synergy with other security agencies in fighting kidnapping among other forms of criminality in Adamawa State.

Fintiri assured stakeholders of his continued support to security outfits towards making the State crime-free, for the betterment of all and sundry.

In his remarks, Zawaya assured the governor that he would do everything possible to maintain security across the State.
