The opposition All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has disclosed its readiness to embarked on “a rescue mission in Abia State, and thus well prepared to legitimately defeat the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 election.
Already, the party is strategizing to achieve its objective, and be in a position to provide the purposeful leadership that the citizens say has been elusive over the years.
The party reportedly held a meeting in Umuahia on Tuesday, apparently to fine tune its strategies. The parley was attended by members of the State Working Committe (SWC), local government chairmen of the party and representatives of the contact group from the national leadership.
The Political Adviser to Anambra State Governor, Chief Ifeatu Obi Okoye, said that APGA is now better organised and better equipped to take “what belongs to us in Abia.”
He said APGA, which controls Anambra State, has demonstrated its capacity and capability for good governance hence it is desirous of replicating its performance in Abia through its rescue mission.
“If we can do it in Anambra, we can do it here in Abia,” he declared, adding that the people of God’s own state are yearning for the party that would come and transform the state.
Okoye, who was the immediate past national publicity secretary of APGA, disclosed that the party has continued to wax stronger in Abia State, and had actually won the governorship election in 2015, but was ‘robbed’ of its victory.
He said come the 2019 general election, APGA would not only repeat its 2015 performance in Abia, but would go the extra mile of actually taking over the Government House in Umuahia by wining and defending its votes.
Okoye effectively debunked insinuations of a faction in the state chapter of the party, pointing out that virtually every person was at the meeting held at the party’s secretariat hence “it is a good sign that this party is united”.
He also said that the party is not losing sleep over the loss of some of its lawmakers elected on its platform who later abandoned APGA for the ruling PDP, saying: “The more they go the more they come.”
The political adviser urged APGA leaders in Abia State to be more focused, close their ranks for the battle ahead, adding that as soon as the primary election is over, “we will unite everybody to take over Abia Government House.”
