The Anambra State government, on Monday, denied having a hand in the arrest of a supporter of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Nnamdi Chude.
Chude was arrested by operatives of Cyber Crime Unit of Interpol on Saturday in Onitsha, over allegation of making a tweet deemed to be against Anambra State governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo.
He has reportedly been moved to Abuja.
Chude was said to have made a tweet on Saturday, alleging that Soludo’s party – All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) – was involved in rigging the March 18 House of Assembly election in the State.
Chude had, in the tweet, alleged that Soludo was instrumental to the rigging, adding that some thugs were carting away ballot boxes, an action he condemned as amounting to dragging Anambra back to the era of former Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju.
Soludo’s Press Secretary Christian Aburime, said in a statement that Chude was moved to Abuja on Sunday, adding that the governor had no hand in his arrest, neither was he aware of Chude’s crime.
Aburime said: “The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Police Command has confirmed to the Governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo, that one Mr. Nnamdi Chude was arrested yesterday (18/03/23) in Anambra by the Cyber Crime Unit of Interpol and taken to Abuja today (19/03/23).
“Anambra State Government has no information about any specific allegations or basis of his arrest,” he clarified.
