First Lady, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, has announced the deactivation of her Twitter account in sympathy with the ban imposed on the microblogging site by the Federal government.
The wife of the president tweeted late night on Friday, that she was deactivating her account for now, giving no reason for her action.
Read her: “I will be deactivating my Twitter account for now. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
She had immediately proceeded to deactivate her Twitter account where she had over one million followers, since joining in February 2016.
Observers see her action as being sympathetic to the Federal government (headed by her husband), which announced the suspension of the operations of the microblogging site – Twitter.
The first lady had been active on the social media, deploying the platforms in promoting her activities and at times in criticizing government’s policies.
Her action is already generating a rash of reactions from Nigerians.
In a statement on Friday, Nigeria’s Information Minister, Lai Mohammed, had announced the suspension of Twitter operations in Nigeria, citing persistent use of the platform for activities that were capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence for the decision.
