*Likens PDP to faulty aircraft
Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has sparked political speculation about his imminent defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), likened his party to a faulty aircraft.
Eno said this during a Town Square meeting with the constituents of the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency at the QIC Central School, Ikot Akpankuk in Akwa Ibom State, on Monday, April 28, 2025.
Eno stated that the PDP is now losing its structure and direction, which may ultimately affect its ability to remain a viable platform for ambitious leaders in the country.
The governor, who used aviation imagery to illustrate his point, said: “If you wanted to travel with Ibom Airline, and on the verge of taking off, it developed a fault that won’t enable it to fly, won’t you board the next available plane to take you to your destination?”
He, however, urged the constituents to continue to support his administration, promising that his government remains committed to grassroots engagement and delivery of democratic dividends.
The governor’s comment comes barely a week after Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor and PDP vice presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, dumped the party for the APC.
Eno’s statement is being seen as a signal that he, too, may be preparing to follow suit.
