…Makes fresh appointment in education
Abia State governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has slashed monthly emolument of all political appointees in the State.
Ikpeazu announced this on Thursday through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Chris Ezem, saying said the salary reduction would be reviewed as soon as the financial situation of the government improves.
For now, the governor directed, the appointees shall henceforth be entitled to only their basic monthly salaries, excluding allowances.
The directive states in part: “The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has approved a downward review of monthly emolument of all Political Appointees in the State subject to review upon attainment of general financial stability.
“This government decision is informed by the present economic crunch in the country occasioned by the global pandemic.
“Going forward, all Political Appointees shall be entitled to their basic monthly salary excluding other allowances.
“All relevant government establishments are to note and implement accordingly,” said Ezem.
Meanwhile, the governor has approved the appointment of Mr. Christopher C. Osuagwu as Acting Executive Secretary of the Secondary Education Management Board (SEMB).
News of the appointment was convey via a statement issued by Mr. Ezem on Thursday in Umuahia.
It said: “Until this appointment, Mr. Osuagwu was the Deputy Executive Secretary of SEMB, Aba Zone.
“This appointment is with immediate effect”.
In the same vein, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has also approved the composition of the Secondary Education Management Board.
Chief Eke Onyeforo is named as Chairman of the Management Board.
Members of the Board were; Dr. Ogbonnaya Ememe, Sir Ishmael Olewe, Mrs Pauline Anyanwu, Dr. Sunny Orie, Dr. Mrs Nwakaego Uwadi and Executive Secretary, SEMB.
