Abia coalition urges FG not to postponed new Naira collection

As a result of the cash crunch in the country, a non-partisan group – Abia Rainbow Coalition – has urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to allow the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) further shift the deadline for the collection of the redesigned Naira, but rather curb the challenges faced by Nigerians as a result of the scarcity and access to the new ones.

The coalition, in statement by its spokesperson Prof. Ihekwuaba, argued that there is no reason that can be given by the CBN or banks as to why Nigerians cannot access the redesigned Naira notes after depositing the old notes in the banks, urging all candidates to key into the clearance hall because the negative effect is unbearable on the lives of the common people in Nigeria.

“We urge all candidates to key in to the clearance hall because the negative effect is unbearable on the lives of the common people in Nigeria.

“Any good thinking person that wants to represent his people must know that at this critical stage there is no reason or whatsoever that the CBN or the bank will give us, where people will deposit their money and to withdraw becomes so difficult so it goes contrary to that postponement .Why should people be urging CBN to postpon the dates? That means they were not ready before making the decision and policy.

“Abia Rainbow Coalition believes that the concern of the people must be utmost in the mindset of all political leaders and aspirants including every right thinking Nigerian who has the country at heart.

“Abia Rainbow Coalition believes in enthronement of good governance where the voice of the people comes first, not the voice of the politicians. The voice of the citizenry must remain sacrosanct.

“We are urging Nigerians with their PVC to let the people that are ready to be servants to their various constituency be ‘leaders’.”
