The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has raised the alarm, warning of scheming by some politicians to rig the 2019 election in Abia State.
The party raised the alarm in a statement titled ‘Abians be vigilant, be properly guided’ signed by the State Chairman, Rev. Augustine Ehiemere.
Below is the full text of the statement:
“The attention of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Abia State has once again been drawn to a very dangerous development which bothers on fraudulent obtaining of PVC details of potential voters by some persons and groups who are determined, as usual to make mess of the transparent mechanism being put in place by INEC ahead of the 2019 election in Abia state.
“APGA and her leaders are worried by this sad development which is being linked to some high ranking officials and members of a notorious political party with legendary penchant for election manipulation and all kinds of electoral impunity.
“APGA is saddened that some of these officials could exploit the government-induced economic hardship ravaging the masses to steal their PVC details in exchange for money that can hardly take care of the daily economic needs of the victims.
“The fact that the ongoing PVC theft has been established to also have a link with the questionable job recruitment exercise going on in Abia, shows that the perpetrators do not just hate Abians, they hate anything capable of deepening our democracy and advancing the well being of Abians.
“APGA wishes to strongly condemn this criminal and anti people act that is spreading like wildfire in every nook and cranny of the state, and call on security agencies to step in and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice.
“We also wish to remind the Abia electorate that the PVC (Voters Card), is not just an instrument to reposition Abia, enthrone people oriented leadership and secure the future of the Abia unborn generations, it is also a very sensitive material that is capable of destroying one’s future if misused or fraudulently altered, hence the need for Abians to be vigilant and shun the temptation of selling their PVCs for monetary gains, no matter the level of coercion and intimidation adopted by the perpetrators.”
