Abductions: Parents urge Senate to probe FG’s $30m Safe School Initiative

The National Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) has implored the Senate to launch a thorough probe into the Federal government’s $30million Safe School Initiative.

The association, a umbrella body of all parents of public and private school students in the country, observed that the money, if well utilized would have helped to prevent the attack on some schools that were recently invaded by hoodlums.

Specifically, the parents’ body lamented the recent kidnap of some school children in Kebbi and Niger states, saying that the unwholesome development has put many parents in jeopardy and lamentation.

The association’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ademola Ekundayo, said the recent discovery by the Senate on the Safe School Initiative is embarrassing, urging that it should not be swept under the carpet.

To this end, the parents’ body encouraged the Senate to ensure probity and fairness in the discharge of their duties while probing the Safe School Initiative.

The association also demanded a white paper report on the Safe School Initiative of the Federal Government, charging the Senate not to undermine the confidence reposed on them by Nigerians.

The parents body stressed the need for the Senate to ensure that those found culpable are made to face the music, stressing that there should be no scape goat in the investigations.
