The Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, has resigned his position in the Upper Legislative Chamber.
This followed his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on which platform he was elected to the Senate in 2019.
Abaribe announced his resignation in two separate letters – one addressed to his Ward Chairman and the other to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, dated May 24, and May 26, 2022 respectively.
In a letter to his former ward chairman in the PDP, Abaribe wrote: “This development is consequent upon the shameful display of illegality, impunity and undemocratic decision of the party and after due consultations with my constituents.”
Abaribe, who represents Abia South in the Senate, recently withdrew from contesting the governorship ticket of the PDP in the State.
Already, Abia State governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has picked the Abia South Senatorial District ticket for the 2023 election, foreclosing Abaribe returning to the Senate.
A video has subsequently emerged on social media platforms showing leaders of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia State urging Abaribe to cross over, and be its gubernatorial flag bearer.
