A 23-year-old woman identified as Okonkwo Onyinye has been arrested for her alleged role in the abduction and robbery of a businessman who was dispossessed of N24 million and his Toyota Highlander SUV in Anambra State.
The suspect was apprehended by police operatives attached to the 3-3 Division in collaboration with members of the Agunechemba Security Outfit in Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Idemili North Local Government Area.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the victim was abducted by a five-man armed gang, forced into the boot of his vehicle, and driven to a bush in Umuoji, where he was dumped after being robbed.
Ikenga said: “Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was double-crossed by the suspects at Nkwelle GRA Gate, where they seized his phone and transferred N24 million from his account before escaping with his vehicle.”
Following intelligence-led operations, security operatives traced the suspects’ movement to Nawfia and later to Ogidi, where the gang engaged them in a gun duel before fleeing. The stolen Toyota Highlander, with registration number RBC 649 CN, was recovered at the scene.
The arrested suspect, Onyinye, is currently assisting police detectives with information to track down her fleeing accomplices.
Ikenga added that police patrols have been intensified across the State ahead of the November 8 Anambra governorship election.
