Mrs. Florence Ezeonye, the Assistant Controller General (AC-G) – Narcotics – Zone 12, Owerri, Imo State, which covers Imo, Abia, and Anambra State commands of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has appealed to Governor Alex Otti to move the NDLEA Command headquarters from Aba to Umuahia.
Ezeonye noted that doing that would bring the drug law enforcers close to the seat of power and further strengthen their operations.
The Assistant Controller General, who led some zonal officers and Abia State Commander of NDLEA to meet the governor, said that the Chairman of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa is appreciative of the residential accommodation in Umuahia and vehicles donated for NDLEA’S operations.
He maintained that strict laws and not rehabilitation was the best way to control drug trafficking, abuse and related crimes.
He further explained that those who engage in involuntary crimes were responsible for 20% of the crimes committed in society today, while those involved in voluntary crime make up the rest 80% and were involved in crimes as a last resort for survival.
Otti promised to look into the request of the NDLEA that their State Command headquarters be moved to Umuahia.
